This practical lab will provide the participant with basic principles and application of exotic and wildlife ophthalmology, covering a broad review on suitable instrumentation and important techniques, clinical & surgical techniques on a comparative basis (birds, reptile and small mammal) from ophthalmoscopy, induction of a mydriasis to enucleation of eyeballs.

Full visual function is vital not only in terms of animal welfare aspects of keeping husbandry animals but especially for releasing wildlife species. Problems faced include (besides the often small size of the eyes) the broad physiological and anatomical variation between species, which require specialized ophthalmological examination techniques. This practical lab will provide the participant with basic principles and application of exotic and wildlife ophthalmology, covering a broad review on suitable instrumentation and important techniques, clinical & surgical techniques on a comparative basis (birds, reptile and small mammal) from ophthalmoscopy, induction of a mydriasis to enucleation of eyeballs.
